Miss Universe

I like the following comment from Yahoo and agree with it. I am happy with the decision to include transgendered women in the Miss Universe competition and is looking forward to seeing contestants from Singapore too. Transgendered women are human too and should not be discriminated.

"Quoting Miss Valerie Lim, “... but thinking of Miss Universe as a role model for women all over the world, perhaps the question would be what sort of message would crowning a transgendered woman send to the majority of women who look to her as the epitome of beauty?”
WHAT IS BEAUTY? Is Miss Valerie Lim the person who defines what beauty is? Who is SHE to say that the transgendered women would send a "sort of message" to the general public?

Quoting Joyce Teo, "...meant to be a competition for the natural beauties. It is rather unfair for someone who has gone under the knife and wins.”

So that does mean that girls who go for plastic surgeries are ugly too? The Korean girls for instance? Are they ugly because they went under the knife? No right? Then again, WHAT IS BEAUTY?

Well, BEAUTY is definitely not discriminating against other human beings and denying them a chance of being WHO THEY REALLY WANT TO BE. Who are we, the general public, to criticize their decisions in life? Who are we, the general public, to say that they are ugly because they changed their gender? Who defines beauty? Beauty definitely shines from within, yes? So these people who discriminate against others... Are they beautiful?

I say transgendered people should be given a chance to compete fairly against the rest simply because they have the rights to. If the world do not see them as beautiful from the judging, then so be it. But I believe that if they really manage to shine through the physical appearance of what is deemed "beautiful", I believe that even transgendered people can win.

Beauty is not superficial. Beauty is from WITHIN."
